Hello Team Austin Maccabi 2009 !!!!

TEAM Austin Maccabi 2009,

The countdown for San Francisco has begun! Believe it or not, we are less than 47 days away from Opening Ceremonies.

Please thank your coaches; Laurence Statman, Bobby Schwartz, Rick Levy, Ryan Howard and Wayne Pappert for the incredible time and energy they have given to our athletes over the past 4 months. Their leadership will ensure that every Austin athlete has the greatest Maccabi experience possible and takes back to Austin a wonderful sense of Jewish spirit, compassion and values. Walking into Opening Ceremonies with 1,500 Jewish teens from across the U.S., Israel and several international cities is an experience one does not forget.

This Team Blog is intended to provide a fun and interactive method of communicating to our Team and Parents leading up to the departure to San Francisco and then during the week of the Maccabi Games. Please check back often for updates.

San Francisco is one of the "greenest" cities around and our hosts intend to provide a Green Maccabi experience unlike any other. Eco Stations and compost bins will be prevalent throughout all venues. Plastic water bottles will NOT be provided; but rather, EcoUsable stainless steel water bottles will be given to all athletes. We encourage all of our Parents who will be joining us in S.F. to support this effort and bring stainless steel re-fillable bottles as well.

Demonstrating Jewish ethics - tikkun olam - repair the planet, heal the world.

In the days ahead we will be sending information about our Team fundraising raffle project. Please stay tuned and thanks in advance for everyone rolling up their sleeves to make the raffle a success. Details forthcoming.

Well, that's all for now. Check back to the blog for exciting updates and a preview of the NEW Team Austin trading pin. Our Austin team pin is destined to become the #1 trading pin at the S.F. games!

With thanks and gratitude to our Coaches & Athletes,

Team Austin Delegation Heads,

Robby Etzkin, Steve Korn & Billy Osherow
